10 Things I Want to do Before I Turn 16: #2 Getting a Car

The second post to this series is one of the more exciting things that happened in 2020. I got a car! This past August, I got a 2009 Toyota Corolla, and it only had 56,000 miles on it.

Since the summer of 2019, I had been saving up money to put down towards my future car. By the time me and my parents were ready to finally get me a car, I had saved up 1/3 of the total cost. But, it took awhile to get there.

We weren’t even searching when in March of 2020 someone my mom worked with was looking to sell her car. We went to give it a test run later that week, and it was perfect!

However, while we were waiting for the previous owner to find a new car, COVID-19 disrupted the United States. Terrified that her or her husband’s job was at risk, the deal fell through.

I looked everywhere and on every website the next few months for a new car. I found nothing. There was no car that was in my price range or had a decent amount of mileage.

Then in August of 2020, my mom received a text saying that the car was still available, if we wanted it. I was so excited! So of course I went back and looked at it again.

After looking at it again, we decided it was time to buy the car. I had been waiting for so long! A couple weeks later, in September, we drove it home and it was finally mine.

My 2009 Toyota Corolla.

Since I got my car, I love to drive to school and around my neighborhood. It makes me feel like I have more freedom, and driving around relaxes me. I can’t wait until I get my full license in a few months!
